About SCMUN VIII
A Milestone for SCMUN
After deliberate consideration, we at SCMUN have decided that our conference theme this year will be Prioritising Compassionate Leadership. In light of the several influential political deviations happening in the past lustrum, we believe it is more than necessary to put our sight on ignored but vital issues globally instead of partisan division and ceaseless arguments. By building leadership that are more compassionate and daring to change, we will widen our sights to form consensus, and to negotiate, collaborate, plan and eventually achieve. Just as Homer wrote in his masterpiece the Odyssey, “For a friend with an understanding heart is worth no less than a brother.”
The year 2019 will mark as a milestone for SCMUN as we will strive to construct a delightful environment from academics to logistics. Quality is what we are looking for. This year, delegates and chairs will have the option of engaging vibrant debates and collaboration in our 6 redesigned committees. In addition, one committee will be conducted in North American MUN procedures as we wish to diversify our academic practices of Model UN. Our highly professional staff members will abide by our faith: compassionate leadership and serve you to the best of their abilities.
For a friend with an understanding heart is worth no less than a brother.

NCPA Director's Message
Dear SCMUN Attendees,
To our guests from elsewhere, welcome to Nansha College Preparatory Academy! We are very honoured to host you at this event, which we have proudly sponsored since our school's founding in 2012. As NCPA students will tell you, the mission of this school is to ensure that our students achieve academic and social excellence. I can think of no co-curricular activity that better aligns with our mission than Model UN!
We aim for NCPA students to become effective negotiators, collaborative learners, resourceful planners and principled achievers. In the next two days at our school, you all will consider the great, global issues of the day; you will work together to craft solutions; you will negotiate with those who are affected; and you will achieve consensus on your resolutions. I wish you a productive and meaningful experience here!

Our Vision
In SCMUN VIII, we aim to foster compassionate leaders that are prepared for the challenges of the 21th century by developing delegates' skills to negotiate, collaborate, plan and eventually achieve.
Negotiators
Negotiators are able to draw conclusions after thoughtful evaluation, address complex issues and resolve conflicts, and flexibly adjust to new situations.
Collaborators
Collaborators are capable of asking questions to improve critical and creative thinking, considering diverse points of view, and learning from observation.
Planners
Planners are the ones who construct systems to organise information and ideas, who acquire habits to evaluate and improve, and who resourcefully persist when encountering obstacles.
Achievers
Achievers are able to listen, read, and communicate effectively to interpret information, conduct research conscientiously and with integrity, and demonstrate mastery of strategies and skills in academic and social contexts.
MUN Director's Message
Hello everyone!
I sincerely appreciate you being a part of this year's SCMUN. This year's SCMUN is brought to you by some of the most amazing and passionate individuals. Everything you see has come solely from the hard work of the SCMUN leadership team which is one hundred percent student-led.
I believe that Model United Nations is a necessity in our world. Peace has never been easy and while at times it seems as though that it is nonexistent, it truly is closer than it has ever been in human history. Because of people like you, solutions are being created, changes are being made, and with each new conversation that is had, justice is even closer to billions than ever before. You are gathered here because you believe in something far greater than yourself. You believe that by coming together and discussing differences with each other, you can create an environment that ensures justice for all.
While it seems that every MUN conference is simply "talking", and "negotiating", and "waiting for two days to end", you must understand that these are the same thoughts of our world leaders. They meet together and put a smile on their face and shake hands, and "talk" and "negotiate" and then at the end of the two days, leave. At that end, they have two choices, they can choose to make a change, or they can let it be a fleeting memory. I urge you, take this conference and every conference as an opportunity to grow, and make a choice with what you have done.
As my favourite political figure of all time once said, "If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationship-the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace."
Sincerely,
Nathaniel Cooper
